National Theatre of Scotland is creating a BSL interpreted video version of their upcoming augmented reality app Ghosts, written and directed by Adura Onashile.

We would like to receive submissions from professional performers over 18 years of age.

We are casting for:

Two D/deaf BSL users who are actors of colour, based anywhere in the UK. Any age (over 18 years) and gender identity will be considered.

One actor will appear in a video version of the app experience, filmed on the streets of Glasgow. The other will, with support in translation and communication, provide the BSL interpretation of the text.

Both will be filmed in Glasgow in mid-late March 2021, dates to be confirmed.

Ghosts is an augmented reality app experience which takes audiences on a self-led walking tour of Glasgow’s Merchant City, exploring the myth of the collective amnesia of slavery and racialised wealth, of empire and identity, and of being lost and found in space and time.

As it has not been possible to integrate BSL interpretation and captioning into the app itself we are creating a video version to provide access to D/deaf and hard of hearing audiences.

General casting information

The National Theatre of Scotland believes in including artists from diverse backgrounds and cultures based on sex, gender, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race (including ethnic origin, colour, nationality, and national origin), disability, sexual orientation, religion and or belief, age, and whether they are drama school trained or not, in all its work.
