This project took place in July 2024
The Neighbourhood Variety Show - North Glasgow sought to re-imagine the tradition of variety shows through inviting local people and performers to take to the stage in Springburn Auditorium for a joyous celebration of the North Glasgow region. It looked to transform the stage into a truly civic space where community can be felt, experienced, and celebrated by a diverse array of short performances made in collaboration with local people.
At its core, this production was about re-negotiating the theatre as a site for community, connection, and care - creating a joyous space for people to come into contact with each other and a wider sense of community.
The Neighbourhood Variety Show is a performance project by Eoin McKenzie (Artist In Residence: Communities) as part of the National Theatre of Scotland’s Neighbourhood Project.
