About Lu Kemp
Lu is a theatre director and dramaturg with a distinctive reputation for her work in new writing. Alongside her work in theatre, Lu is currently training as a film editor with the NFTS (Sean Connery Film Talent Lab).
Lu was Artistic Director of Perth Theatre between 2016 to 2023. Her tenure was notable for supporting the creation of new work by Scottish artists and community engaged productions. Her own productions at Perth include contemporary adaptations of Don Quixote, Don Juan, The Importance of Being Earnest, Kes andRichard III. She co-created Oh When the Saints, with playwright Martin McCormick and St. Johnstone FC and Six Inches of Topsoil and the Fact it Rains with Kieran Hurley and Perthshire farmers. As a freelance director, Lu has worked for The Citizens, The Royal Lyceum Theatre, The National Theatre of Scotland, Artangel, The Tricycle, Almeida and The Royal Shakespeare Company.
Lu dramaturgs for both theatre and dance companies. She has worked for choreographers through Dance Xchange Birmingham, Rambert, Sadler’s Wells and The Place. She is currently working with Theatre Gu Leor, Raw Materials and Scottish Theatre Producers.
Lu has worked in house at the BBC as a Radio Drama Producer (2002 - 2007) and after leaving to freelance continued to work for them as a director, adaptor and abridger. She regularly teaches playwriting, and writing for radio, at the Arvon Centre.
