About Chell Young
Chell Young is a multimedia artist and designer based in Glasgow. As Assistant Designer, Chell’s role has been to work closely with Karen Tennant in the realisation and execution of the set design as well as with Sabrina Henry on the costume development. She graduated from a degree in Painting at Edinburgh College of Art in 2019. Chell’s own practice focuses largely on the act of world building in a playful blend of both miniature and large scale sets, hand drawn animation, green screening and shadow-play. From 2021-2022 Chell worked with Berlin/Glasgow based contemporary dance Artist Rosalind Masson as lead visual designer in her piece Occupying Eden. The piece was shown several times at Hellerau European Center for Contemporary Arts in Germany in 2022 as well as at Dance Base at the Edinburgh Festival 2022. She has also worked on shows within Hidden Door Festival for three consecutive years as creative lead and participating Artist. Imagined Realities (2021, La Belle Angele); Imagined Realities (2021, Granton Gas Works); Microsteria (The Royal High School 2022). In 2021 she created work for Puppet Animation Scotland’s Manipulate Festival (Restless Worlds, 2021) and was also awarded the Emerging Visual Art and Craft Maker award within Renfrewshire. In 2019 she was the recipient of the RSA John Kinross Scholarship to Florence and also the Scottish Sculpture Workshop Graduate Residency Award. She has exhibited her work all over Scotland including the Royal Scottish Academy, Talbot Rice Gallery and HospitalField, her photographic work is also kept within the RSA collections.
