Transform Glasgow: Smiler
November 2009
Overview
Transform Glasgow: Smiler
of sorts. Granny used to sing to him in Gaelic but now she’s getting old. Cammy’s getting in with the gangs and Smiler’s retreating into his own wild imagination, a world of his own that isn’t really real.
With Granny getting ill and Cammy getting deeper into bother, Smiler’s world turns upside down. Simple tasks like getting a pint of milk become epic quests. His neighbourhood becomes an almost mythical landscape of gang packs, wise women and jakey mystics.
Will Smiler reach Cammy before everything falls apart for good? And will his fantasy world be his downfall, or his saving grace?
Gaelic singing, urban poetry and fearless physical theatre collide in this freshly-minted theatre event co-created by the National Theatre of Scotland, Glasgow East school students, college students and local community participants.
