Project Macbeth

October - November 2006

A man clenches his fist as others look towards him.

Overview

Devised and directed by Simon Sharkey

Scotland’s king, hero or villain? The real Macbeth at war with Shakespeare’s myth in a battle to redefine his 21st century identity.

Re-imagined and reinvented for, by and with teachers and pupils and a professional cast and crew. Including the best bits from Shakespeare’s play, none of the original suspense or drama will be lost. Instead, a multimedia approach incorporating sound, video and visual art installation will create a fast paced and thrilling theatrical event.

And if that isn’t exciting enough, in a groundbreaking initiative, teachers and pupils at each of the five venues are creating five Scottish contemporary texts inspired by Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Led by professional directors, each play features on the same stage and set but is designed and produced by local schools and artists.
