We’re very excited to be opening our doors to the public again this weekend, welcoming everyone in to our Rockvilla headquarters as part of the 2018 Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival. From 10am to 5pm on Saturday 15 September, visitors will have the chance to explore behind the scenes and enjoy a range of unique experiences and opportunities throughout the day.

There is still a chance to book places on two special events giving audiences the chance to learn more about The 306, our powerful and profound First World War trilogy about the soldiers executed for cowardice and desertion during the conflict, which concludes with The 306: Dusk later this year. The trilogy’s composer Gareth Williams will lead a special song workshop, showcasing and giving visitors a chance to learn music from the productions. And later in the day Gareth will be joined by the play’s writer and co-creator Oliver Emmanuel for an In-Discussion event, chaired by Scotsman journalist and theatre critic Joyce McMillan, where they will share insight into their work bringing these heart-breaking stories to the stage ahead of the trilogy’s conclusion.

Places are also still available for 18 to 26 year-old visitors to take part our special Futureproof theatre workshops, led by the festival’s co-curator Lucy Gaizely from 21Common. This unique opportunity will give young people an active chance to learn more about the process of creating theatre with one of the country’s leading performance artists.

Throughout the day the building will also play host to a variety of drop-in activities and workshops for all ages, allowing visitors to simply turn up and get involved. Budding theatre-makers can meet members of our Artistic Development Team for their open Ideas and CareersEngine Room session. There will be a special augmented reality experience allowing visitors to delve into one of our celebrated recent productions, The Reason I Jump, through a dedicated smartphone app.

And of course, all through the day there will be guided tours of Rockvilla, giving people the chance to explore behind the scenes through interactive tours of the wardrobe areas, technical workshops, rehearsal rooms and prop store, and the chance to meet the technical team who bring all of our work to Scotland’s stages and beyond. Bookable spaces for all tours will be available on the day.
