Develop Residencies

Residencies

This year we are offering 2 Develop Residencies.

Develop residencies offer artists the following opportunities where required and available

  • access to rehearsal space – at Rockvilla in Glasgow
  • 1-2-1s to focus on your next steps for developing the work once the residency has ended. For example, advice on producing the work, or help from a dramaturg. technical support and advice
  • bespoke opportunities like process pop ins to rehearsals of productions
  • advice sessions with National Theatre Scotland staff team. For example, how to market your show, how to raise money, how to take your show on tour, or how to get people to engage with your work.
  • meeting with us at the end of the residency to talk about how the project went and, if relevant, explore what the next steps of the work could be.
  • We can also help you to write an access rider, which you can use in the future. This is a document that lets people know your access needs.
  • We can also offer technical support and advice.

| Develop Residency (Extended Reality (XR) Performance)

This residency supports theatre artists/collectives and technologists to work collaboratively to develop new immersive narrative tech performance projects and ideas.

This residency will end with a sharing – the scope of which will be determined with producing support.

This residency has a budget of £15,000, which covers the lead artist fee, for approximately six weeks of their time, over a five-month period between January – May 2025, collaborator fees, project costs and materials.

Apply to this if you want to develop your idea for a new work and need time and space to research and develop it. You might want help to develop your project to a point where you could share it with programmers, promoters, or producers. Or you might want to test out ideas and processes which need to be explored before the work is ready for final rehearsals and production stage.

We will work with you to tailor your residency to what you need, want to explore and develop.

| Develop Residency (Artists in Community)

The aim of the residency is to help you to develop an idea or project. Your project must be made with and for the community of "Possobilities" in North Glasgow. This project is about how you can use any kind of theatre in your process for engaging with these communities. Theatre includes things like performing, storytelling, creative writing, music, dance and movement.

The residency will be part of The Neighbourhood Project. We are interested in what it means for the local community to have a national company on their doorstep, and what that means to us at the National Theatre of Scotland.

This residency has a budget of £15,000. This covers the lead artist fee, project costs and materials. You will need to spend 2 days a week on it, for 6 months, and you must start by December 2024.

We will work with you to tailor your residency to what you need, want to explore and develop together with “Possobilities”.
