Creative Careers On The Road

Education

We are delighted to offer Secondary Schools across the Highlands the opportunity to register their interest to take part in our new FREE Creative Careers on The Road Pilot Program. We have been successfully running our Creative Careers Insights program for a number of years and feel now is the time to take this opportunity back out on the road and directly into those schools further afield who are unable to make the trip to our Glasgow HQ.

Our passion lies in cultivating awareness among the next generation of creatives about the countless opportunities within the creative industries. We firmly believe that the arts can serve as a powerful tool to nurture confidence, ambition, and creativity in any workforce. From creating marketing plans to developing community engagement programs, we strive to broaden pupils knowledge of the creative industries beyond just being on stage

Sessions cater for both S1-S2 and S3-S6 students, with sessions designed to best suit students attending in these two designated groups, rather than a mix of pupils from across the whole school years.

Both practical and informative, each session will run for a double period (based on 50 min periods) with each school able to register for up to 3 sessions in any one day, depending on the structure of your daily timetable.

The pilot sessions will take place Tuesday 25, Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 February 2025

To register your school’s interest, please complete the registration form via the link below, no later than Friday 20 December 2024. Schools who have been allocated a place on the pilot will be informed by Friday 17 January 2024.

About The Sessions:

Each double period can accommodate a max of 30 pupils and will cover:

  • Virtual tour of National Theatre of Scotland HQ, Rockvilla
  • Live link Q&A Session with NTS core staff from varying department across the organisation.
  • Practical, fun, hands on workshop session that will shed light on the actual responsibilities of a number of current roles within NTS via real life task setting, facilitated by our two creative facilitators who will lead pupils through the full session in person.
  • Sessions DO NOT focus on performance/acting roles, but more on the many behind the scenes roles such as producing, audience & media, finance, technical roles and so are accessible for those pupils who do not study drama or have no theatre experience, as well as those who do.

What We Require:

  • A space that can accommodate a max of 30 pupils per session, allowing group work and free movement (please note this does not need to be a gym or lunch hall, a classroom where tables can be moved around to create space is fine)
  • Access to a smart board/TV/projector that can be connected to a lap top ( NTS will bring a number of cables to ensure the connection to our lap top can be made)
  • Wifi access to allow TEAMs live connection between school and Rockvilla HQ
  • A teacher/school rep to be in the space with pupils at all times during the sessions

How Many Sessions Can Each School Book?

Schools registering their interest can request anything between 1 and 3 sessions on one given day. We would not spend more than one day in any school to enable the opportunity to be more equally shared in the area, but do ask that you share a 2nd preference date in case we can not accommodate your first choice.

If you would like to discuss any of the above in more detail before filling in your note of interest form, please feel free to email Gillian Gourlay Education and Outreach Manager gillian.gourlay@nationalthatrescotland.com to arrange a chat.
